Bats:
Also known as Spawn of Nathair; Legend portrays them as creatures of reasoning sentience that followed in the defiant footsteps of the Firstborn Nathair and preyed upon all other creatures for sustenance and dominance. Legend also says they once ruled the Shadow Time in an age of terror, the Last Cycle of Chaos, but were ultimately driven from the skies by owls amidst the Nights of Shadow.
First referenced in issue #2

Cats:
Assumed to be creatures of reasoning intelligence, as the hooded mouse attempts to reason his way out of combat with a starving and weakened one in issue #2. They appear to live in both worlds, the Day World and the Shadow Time.

Many, The:
Red ants that appear to nest within living creatures, devouring them from within. Their ravenous hunger and great numbers make them a mobile threat. They also possess the ability to animate the corpses they inhabit and create a mockery of life. Their level of sentient intelligence is unknown, although they do seem to function from a hive mind driven by insatiable hunger. The Templar succeeded in driving them from the land years ago, but the fall of that Order took their vigilance with it, and threats like The Many now return to the region of the Dark Lands.
First introduced in issue #2

Mice:
Creatures of reasoning sentience, said to have been blessed with wisdom by Wotan himself in order to serve all other creatures in his name. Industrious and agrarian, most mice communities are established near creeks and streams. The common mouse is easy prey to predators even half of their size, but Templar training, exclusive to mice, ensures that one lone knight or a division of such are capable of defending against any land-based threat. Currently, mice culture appears subservient to rat masters under the rule of King Icarus.

Nathair:
Also called the “Firstborn.” Considered legend as they are purported to have lived during the Ancient Days, when they despised the brilliant all-seeing Eyes of Wotan. Under the leadership of Donas, they constructed the Great Catapult of Dubhlan, the “Defiant,” to blot out the two suns so that they might rule over all creatures in the resulting darkness that would cover the entire world forever. But their efforts only dimmed one Great Eye, and thus were they cursed by Wotan and banished to the Outer Darkness. Their legacy of defiance is now considered the origin of all evil that followed, of any race or individual that seeks to conquer and enslave others for their own benefit; the slang term “Sons of Nathair” hearkens to this legend. The mystic practices of Black Anaius also serve as a conduit to the Outer Darkness, seemingly allowing the Nathair to maintain an as yet unknown influence on the realm they were banished from. Their appearance is said to resemble serpents crossed with parasitic tapeworms, yet possessing six limbs as insects.

Owls:
Natural predators that are to be respected more than feared. Their legendary role as the Emissaries of Wotan occurred amidst the Last Cycle of Chaos when they drove the oppressive bats from the Shadow Time skies during the Nights of Shadow. They also serve as protectors of the Fields of Gold, the Great Ash Tree, the Readers of the Wheat and the Templar Priesthood.

Rats:
Creatures of reasoning sentience, although generally considered of lesser intelligence than their smaller rodent cousins. Often twice the size of mice, they typically associate in packs and engage in a mob mentality to take what they desire without thought of the consequences. Most sentient species consider them to be dirty, callous, uncouth, and exploiters of other races. Packs of rats under military command now raid mice villages and towns, searching for and executing Templar exiles, taking captives, and razing the settlements by fire: Hollow’s Stream and Cricket’s Glen are confirmed destroyed by rats. Identified rats thus far are the captains, Darsk, Kruskof (deceased), Malik and Tosk.
First introduced in issue #1

Serpents:
See RACES: Snakes

Snakes:
Also Serpents; natural predators, nothing else is revealed thus far other than a possible collusion with druids hinted at by the games of mice children. The legendary Firstborn Nathair are said to partially resemble serpents.
First referenced in issue #1

Spiders:
Natural predators of various sizes. They are not only to be feared in the wild, but also infiltrate civilized defenses to snatch their prey. A spider menaced Cricket's Hollow many times until killed by Deishun.
First introduced in issue #1

Weasels:
